SAP Gateway Guide

SAP Gateway Overview

The SAP gateway is installed within an organisation's trusted network and will make a local TCP end-point available for each remote communications device connected to SAP. Legacy metering software will then be able to connect to this local TCP end-point and the gateway will then set up a secure channel to SAP and provide a transparent communications channel with the meter via its ISA or communications device.

Each organisation (or part of an organisation) that is required to communicate with meters using SAP will install a single instance of a SAP gateway on its private network. Normally this will be a server (physical or virtual) that is visible to all machines running metering software within the trusted network. The SAP gateway is configured via the SAP web site with a local private IP address (i.e. the address that the gateway is installed on) and a TCP port range that it will use to provide local TCP end-points. Each remote ISA device will automatically be assigned a local TCP end-point.
